The association East-West-East Germany e. V. supports socially disadvantaged young people and promotes their participation in educational and exchange projects. It creates spaces where young people from different backgrounds can meet, fostering mutual understanding and reducing prejudice. Key topics include participation, empowerment, resilience, and intercultural dialogue.
The activities are aimed particularly at young people from diverse international backgrounds as well as refugees.
The youth initiative Lichter Der Großstadt, based in Hagen and the surrounding area, is part of the network. Through music, dance, poetry, film, and acting, participants promote democracy, diversity, and inclusion, and take a stand against discrimination.
The association works with various migrant groups, including minorities such as Alevi and Yazidi youth. Many projects are developed and implemented by the young people themselves.
For almost 19 years the Elaphi kindergarten has been offering bilingual childcare. The kindergarten offers Greek and German food alternately, holidays of both cultures are celebrated and stories, songs and games are presented in both languages. For the Greek children it is ensured that they have a good command of their mother tongue. This is the basis for learning a second language. German children also receive an introduction to Greek. Since January 2019, East West East Germany has been organising in Elaphi a voluntary service (ESC) for young people from Greece.
